Why does the Mayo clinic recommend 1200 calories day for women to lose weigh?

    That is the average. If you carefully plan your meals you get the nutrients with fewer calories. However, speak to your doctor and a dietitian. It may be that you require more. It depends on how active you are, and many other factors.
