Why is 1200 the minimum amount of calories recommended daily?

Jessie S asked:

I’ve read in several places that it is dangerous to eat less than 1200 calories a day. And that if you do, you’re starving yourself. Why? Is 1200 a specific number? Or does it vary from person to person?

    Want to lose weight?

Because that is an average of what typical person burns during the day. You won’t be starving yourself if you are eating the right types of food. Good food has very few calories. It is the bad food that is loaded with calories and fat. If you are very athletic, your body might require more.
